Aspiring Model Says Her Fiancé Dumped Her After Brain Tumor Treatment Made Her Gain Weight

A 24-year-old girl with terminal brain cancer has spoken out about her broken heart after allegedly getting dumped by her fiancé only one month prior to their planned wedding because he couldn’t accept her bodily changes.

According to Perth-based Emily Nicholson, her weight rose by 70 pounds after she began the treatment for her brain tumor.

The promising model, who moved to Australia to work as a club promoter and bar manager back in 2012, was diagnosed with an astrocytoma in February 2016.

Despite the severity of her disease, Emily Nicholson and Jamie Smith began planning their wedding in 2017 after the girl was told to have no more than one year to live.

Just one month before their supposed wedding, however, Jamie allegedly called the ceremony off and broke up with then-slender Emily via Facebook Messenger.

Speaking of the horrible moment when she received the breakup message from her then-boyfriend, Emily said:

“Jamie messaged me and said he didn’t want to be with me and he hadn’t loved me for a long time.

“It was horrendous. He made it very clear that he didn’t love me. I felt it was because of the way I looked and what had happened.

“Now I don’t feel anything about him, he hurt me but there’s no point getting upset over it. I’ve just had to be strong about it all.

“He told me he didn’t love me anymore. For months he’d been going out with his friends but obviously, I couldn’t do that.

“We were looking to build our lives together in the time we had left.”

Following Emily’s devastating diagnosis, her mother, Joanne Nicholson, became her full-time carer. She and her entire family settled down in Perth, Western Australia, in hopes of starting a new life in 2012.

“Emily was doing so well, she had her own house and a good job as a bar manager and she was also picking up work as a model and nightclub host,” Joanne said.

“She was vivacious, fun loving and a bit wild. She’s always been a ferociously hard worker. She was blossoming, she loved life and now it’s all gone.

“When she kept having seizures, we just thought it was stress because she was working so hard. When we went into the doctor’s office and he told us our world just fell apart.

“I look back and think how did we even get home? I remember breaking down crying, Emily looked at me and asked me to help, and there was nothing I could do. I had no power and everything was taken out of our hands.”

Fortunately, Joanne was by her daughter’s side to support her even when her then-boyfriend ended their engagement and their relationship.

“Emily had the surgery and had a month to go till the wedding. We were sat with her when it happened; she just burst into tears,” Joanne recalled.

“He went on his stag do on the Saturday evening even though he’d called things off. I was angry at him, but as time has gone on I’m not angry at him anymore.

“He was lovely, he was a really nice lad and it got to the point where she couldn’t go out and she was getting bigger.

“When you go through something like this, life is too short to hate anyone – he did his best but I don’t blame him, it got too much for him.

“Emily’s illness has been hard but as a parent we needed to be here for her. There are some moments when I think that I’m the unluckiest person in the world.

“People say to me I’m so strong but what’s the alternative? We have to keep fighting.”

After Emily’s story went viral, however, Jamie also spoke out and denied all allegations.

“It was the other way around, she actually left me, I never left her. And, secondly, I never left her for anything to do with her weight gain,” he said.

“If that was the case I would have left her months before we split up because she started putting weight on before that. It had nothing to do with that at all.”
