A 28-year-old man, from Warrington in Cheshire, called off his wedding two weeks before the big day after finding out his doctor fiancé was cheating on him.
Matt Hillier, who is a teacher, flew to Belo Horizonte to marry Brazilian doctor Octavio Santos on April 1.
However, it turned out his fiancé was cheating on him after he was put in isolation with his lover over suspected coronavirus.
Octavio was then forced to admit he was cheating Matt and told him he’s in isolation with his lover.
Matt was left heartbroken as he said: “I’ve moved to the other side of the world to start a life with this man. I’ve spent so much time stressing over organizing our wedding so that it’s perfect.”
He said he is angry and bitter as this is how he repaid him after he did so much for him.
Matt told he was going on a long weekend to Rio with Octavio but had to stay behind after Airbnb didn’t let them take Octavio’s Jack Russell dog, Pico.
So, Matt decided to stay behind to look after Octavio’s dog so Octavio could enjoy the vacation.
Octavio went on vacation with his friend who was also friends with Matt.
Matt said he trusted Octavio as they have been together for five years and he also trusted his friend.
When Octavio called Matt and told him he had a fever, Matt told him to go to the hospital as he felt he had coronavirus.
Matt said: “I was really worried as it sounded like coronavirus. But then his tone changed and he said he was very sorry, but that he had slept with Nathan.”
“I told him I felt betrayed and that I didn’t understand why he would do this. I just wanted him to come home so we could talk about it properly.”
Octavio is now in isolation and is due out of quarantine the day before their wedding.
Matt told he met Octavio on a dating app in Spain five years ago and they got engaged last year.
It was Octavio who proposed him and told Matt he wanted to marry him.
Matt said: “I was looking forward to spending my life with him. I am angry and bitter. He is a cheat and this is a total slap in the face.”
Matt has called off the wedding and is unsure whether he would marry him in the future or not as he has broken his trust.
He also feels guilty for being angry at him as he is ill.
Matt said: “You are not meant to be mad at a sick person. He is now being really apologetic and says he wishes we could go back to it just being me and him. But I don’t know if I can forgive him.”
Octavio told he made a mistake because he was drunk and now wants to be with Matt as soon as he is fully recovered.
