The loving father who was shot while shielding his three children from gunfire has received over $270,000 from kindhearted people.
Anthony Jefferson was shot in the thigh when he covered his three young children to protect them from gunfire at a New York City car dealership.
According to reports, he was at the dealership shopping for a car to surprise his wife for her birthday.
However, Jefferson has lost his jobs because of his injuries and his three young children were left ‘traumatized’ from the incident.
He has been fired from his jobs as a construction worker in the city and head painter for a maintenance company.
Even though he has started recovery, his wife Danica said her husband will need to undergo surgery as the bullet is still stuck inside his leg.
She also said that their children, aged 2, 5, and 6, have become traumatized over the shooting.
They don’t want to go outside and they cry in their sleep, with the 2-year-old asking: “Why did the man shoot my daddy?”
A GoFundMe page set up for the family to help cover hospital bills and enroll the kids in therapy has raised more than $270,000 in only three days.
The biggest donation came from an anonymous person who gave $25,000 to the family.
More than 8,000 people have donated and left uplifting messages.
One kindhearted person wrote: “This is every parents worst nightmare and ultimate sacrifice. This man has brought honor to his family and courage to my heart.
“My dearest wish is that his children recover from this traumatizing experience and that the fear in their hearts is replaced with the same courageous spirit of their father. It is my honor to provide what little I have for such a courageous hero and his noble actions.”
