A loving father has shed 168 pounds after promising his dying daughter that he would take care of her three children once she was gone.
And so, 56-year-old Mike Summers decided to turn his life around and lose excess weight after his daughter, Sarah, passed away from breast cancer in 2016.
As Mike revealed, Sarah made him promise that he would lose his weight and get into a healthy shape during one of their final moments together.
Following two years after the young woman’s tragic death, Mike is unrecognizable and ready to take on the challenges ahead of him.
He made sure he kept his promise and lost a total of 168 pounds, ending up at a healthy weight of 200 pounds.
“The last conversation I had with my daughter was I had to try and be around to help my son in law with her kids,” South Wales-based Mike said.
“I was being selfish. It is only when I lost my daughter did I realize that if something happened to me, I would be leaving everyone else behind.
“The reason why I have done this is not for my own personal gain, but for everybody. My goal was to make sure I could be around for my family and you could not get better motivation than that.”
Before undergoing the weight loss journey, Mike had been eating loads of junk food despite the evidence that his health was deteriorating. Even after his weight loss, he still suffers from reduced lung capacity and irregular heart rate which were previously linked to his excessive weight.
“With the COPD, the weight was crushing my lungs and it was so straining. It also meant that my heart had to work a lot harder because I was carrying so much weight,” he added.
“Now I have lost all this weight, it has got a thousand times better. I feel fitter now than I did when I was in my 40s.”
