A father took the life of his terminally-ill daughter before shooting himself in a heartbreaking murder-suicide that took place in Florida.
The unnamed father, who was reportedly in his 40s, allegedly shot his 11-year-old daughter at their Davie home on Monday morning.
After taking the life of the young girl, who was suffering from a “debilitating, terminal illness,” the father turned the gun on himself and ended his life as well.
According to the reports, the murder-suicide took place in the family home as the 11-year-old’s mother was busy preparing breakfast.
After hearing gunshots and running over to check what was happening, the mother was shocked to see her husband and their daughter fatally shot.
While the child was pronounced dead at the scene, the father was allegedly rushed to Broward County Medical Center where he later passed away.
Following the incident, Lt Mark Leone of the Davie Police Department confirmed that the case is being treated as a murder-suicide.
“While we were speaking to the mother, we were told that the child has a debilitating, terminal illness, which is a possibility for why this tragic incident occurred,” the officer said in an interview with Local 10.
As of this writing, an investigation is underway and the authorities have yet to release additional information, including the names, of the deceased.
Following the shooting at the family home, the authorities were spotted securing the property with a crime scene tape.
