37-year-old Timothy Jones Jr.
faces the death penalty for murdering his five kids after they came back from a trip to Disney World.
The father drove hundreds of miles with corpses in his vehicle for a week before throwing the bodies in Alabama.
Jones is charged with five counts of murder in the deaths all his five children. His defense has also conceded that he murdered his children but he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
His ex-wife, Amber Kyzer, broke down while reading a letter to her oldest daughter: “Mommy and Daddy were really blessed to have you.”
“Oh, God. Oh, God! “ she said while crying in court. “My babies! My babies!”
After a contentious break-up, Jones ended up with custody of all children – two girls and three boys.
Prosecutors reported he murdered 6-year-old Nahtahn after the child broke an electrical outlet in their mobile home. He then strangled the oldest child, 8-year-old Merah, and 7-year-old Elias with his hands.
Merah’s last words were, “Daddy, I love you,” according to prosecutors.
After that, he wrapped a belt around the necks of 1-year-old Abigail and 2-year-old Gabriel, ending their lives.
He stuffed their bodies in garbage bags and drove hundreds of miles, sleeping in the vehicle with the corpses in the back. Jones then dumped the bodies in a desolate part of Alabama.
Jones was arrested in Mississippi at a checkpoint after police detected what they described as ‘the smell of death’ in his vehicle, along with synthetic marijuana, maggots, and blood.
During questioning, the father admitted to killing his children. He then claimed he only did so in preemptive self-defense, according to his arrest warrant.
He then confessed he lost his temper when Nahtahn broke the outlet. “The voices started kicking in, saying, ‘You better do something, you are [expletive], Tim,” he expressed.
He had taken the kids to Disney World and the beach before the killings, prosecutors said.
