A dedicated father and devoted dog owner has passed away after attempting to rescue family dogs from his burning home.
The tragic incident occurred in Kirrawee, Sydney, where 54-year-old Wayne Rare and his 51-year-old wife Toni were sleeping peacefully when a fire erupted.
While Wayne and Toni managed to escape the blaze together with their two children, their dogs remained in the house as the fire spread all around.
In a desperate move to save his beloved dogs, Wayne charged back into the burning home and sustained severe injuries in his rescue attempt.
After the emergency responders arrived at the scene, the family was rushed to the hospital. While Toni remains in a critical condition due to smoke inhalation according to the Daily Telegraph, her husband had succumbed to his injuries and died at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
Both of the couple’s children, 23-year-old Jacinta and 25-year-old Ziggy, were already released from the hospital after receiving treatment for inhaling smoke.
While one of the dogs, a husky named Blaze, managed to survive the ordeal, Ilo the Staffordshire Bull Terrier succumbed to its injuries.
Following Wayne’s tragic passing, a friend of the Rare family revealed that the devoted father would do anything for his family and their dogs.
“Wayne with his heart of gold ran back inside to try and retrieve their family dogs, but he couldn’t get to them. It all happened so fast,” Diaz Nailer expressed.
“They are the most beautiful family, who welcome people into their lives with open arms. The family is just distraught and they have lost everything – they literally have nothing left.”
