A father who was born on a leap day 32 years ago has welcomed a baby daughter who was also born on February 29.
32-year-old Ivan Peñaloza from California was over the moon when he learned that his baby daughter was due on March 3.
Unexpectedly, however, the tiny girl arrived in this world on February 29, just as her father was celebrating his 8th official birthday.
“I prayed to God for my little baby girl and now we are going to share this amazing bond for the rest of our lives and I am just so happy,” the man said in a statement shared by Mercy San Juan Medical Center where baby Camila was born.
“We feel so blessed to have our little Camila here and so incredibly shocked at the coincidence that she now shares her leap day birthday with her dad,” Jennifer Rebollar Cortez, the baby’s mum, added in an interview with CNN.
According to the reports, the father and daughter beat the one in over two million odds and the staff at the hospital couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate both the birth and the birthday of the same family on the leap day.
“Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center has a legacy of serving patients and we feel incredibly fortunate to share in this special, life-changing moment with this family,” Mercy San Juan president Michael Korpiel said.
