Barrie Drewitt-Barlow may be a name familiar to some of our British readers, for he was one of the first Britons who became a father as a homosexual man.
He again appeared on headlines for proposing to and marrying 25 year old Scott Hutchinson – his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.
Surprisingly, the proposal was made on a summer vacation that the three all went together. Of course at the time of proposal, his daughter had already broken up with the 25 year old bisexual assistant to her father.
The proposal was shared to the world via Barrie’s Instagram post, in which a recorded video was uploaded. The proposal was made on a yacht near the Croatian island of Hvar. The 50 year old had decorated the boat with the classic props such as rose petals and champagne.
In the video, he presents his fiancee of 25 years of age difference by presenting a beautiful diamond ring. The video and the announcement were all well received by Barrie’s Instagram followers. With more than 3,000 views, 200 have liked the post.
In a consequent post, he posted pictures that included his daughter Saffron. Although he was in the news headlines for becoming one of the first gay fathers in the UK, he has since split up with that partner. He is still very close with his daughter Saffron.
Barrie told reporters that Hutchinson was someone who he could rely on as his former partner Tony frequented the hospitals because of his failing health. After 32 years of close relationship, Barrie ended his relationship with Tony, although he still said he was the love of his life.
Saffron, who indeed must be in one of the most awkward spots, said she fully endorsed the marriage as long as the two really do love each other. Barrie and Hutchinson was already expecting a child through a surrogate mother, but had not been formally engaged.
Further complicating this already complex marriage is the fact that Tony and three other children that Barrie had had with Tony still reside with the rest of the family in their Florida residence. Luckily, it is said that the house has two separate wings.
