Frederick Connie had to make a heartbreaking choice when his wife Keyvonne Connie had gone into early labor and started hemorrhaging inside their house in Colorado.
He should’ve been the happiest man that day, but when they went to the hospital, Frederick was told he had to choose between saving his daughter and wife.
On that same day, Frederick welcomed his baby girl into the world. He chose what he thought his wife would want him to do.
Keyvonne was due to give birth in January but went into early labor. Frederick felt something was wrong as he saw blood everywhere. They rushed to the hospital, where he was asked to make a difficult choice.
“It was either give her the surgery first that may save her life, but you’re going to lose your daughter, or your daughter can be saved but there’s a chance you might lose your wife,” he said.
The devastated father knew how his better half felt about children, and he chose that she should have the C-section to save their child.
“I’m glad I made that decision because in the end if Keyvonne probably could have survived, she would have hated me for the rest of my life,” he added.
Keyvonne survived the procedure and saw photos of her baby girl. But only a few minutes later, she passed away.
“Literally all of her insides just went all over the bed and floor,” Frederick expressed. “They tried [to save her] and her heart couldn’t take it. She died before they could even get her to surgery.”
Frederick named their little girl Angelique Keyvonne Connie, who he calls ‘Pooder’.
“I gave her her mom’s name,” he shared. “She’s going to know her mom. I’ll make sure of that.”
The nurses have gifted Pooder some clothes and Frederick was also given a room in labor and delivery. “I’m the only man to ever have a room in the labor and delivery,” he said. “The mothers there said it was okay.”
The new dad is struggling with debt and said he will sell everything if needed for Pooder. “This debt is piling up and I have to bury my wife, my daughter coming into the world, it’s so high right now.”
His boss started a fundraiser to help him and his child, and they have raised over $13,000.
