48-year-old Rowan Charles Baxter previously shared a video of him slamming his son’s head into a bed.
One month later, he started a car fire to take the lives of his wife, 31-year-old Hannah Baxter, and three children, 3-year-old Trey, 4-year-old Laianah, and 6-year-old Aaliyah.
Baxter stabbed himself in the chest after he survived the blaze as people tried to rescue the kids trapped inside the vehicle. He even begged first responders not to extinguish the flames.
Hannah managed to escape from the vehicle shouting “he’s poured petrol on me,” according to witnesses. She was rushed to hospital suffering severe burns but was pronounced dead in the evening.
A video has since surfaced of Baxter playing roughly with his children. One showed the three children laughing as he took turns grabbing them by the neck while pushing the kids away from him.
In the video, 3-year-old Trey eventually got tired of the game after his head was slammed into the bed and ran away from the camera. Baxter then laughed and continued to play with his two daughters.
The video was taken before bedtime. He wrote: “Sweet dreams my babies… love you to the moon and back.”
But the footage was met with messages of support, with some friends saying Baxter was only teaching them to have a thick skin.
One friend commented at that time: “That is the coolest bro. Kids love being roughed up then they don’t cry over every little thing. Awesome what you are doing.”
That same friend wrote under his comment: “What he has done is the saddest thing ever and inexcusable… I have nothing but good memories of the man and no one could have foreseen this happening. RIP to the little ones.”
According to reports, the couple had just separated and closed the business they managed together.
The car fire happened only meters from Hannah’s parents’ house.
