A carpenter has built a car out of wood and is now driving the car from Peru to New York City before his daughter’s 17th birthday.
Bienvenido Ortega made a promise to his then 13-year-old daughter Eneli to make a car out of wood for her 17th birthday.
His daughter told him she didn’t want a traditional ‘Quinceañera’ party for her birthday. She said she wanted a car made out of wood and wanted her father to drive it all the way from his home in Peru to her home in New York.
His daughter Eneli said: ‘What I want is for you to build me a wooden car and bring it to New York by road for my 15th birthday. I will wait for you’.
Her father spent two years building her a VW Beetle out of wood and is now driving from Peru to New York City before his daughter’s 17th birthday.
Bienvenido said he chose the VW Beetle because “it is relatively small and the engine does not use water.
It is less likely to be damaged and is more conventional to fix”.
“Secondly, because I have made several wooden cars and I always wanted to make a Volkswagen for myself, breaking that record of making a round car with many curves. It was not so difficult for me. I found it not so easy, but not so difficult.”
The car still needs some work to be done.Bienvenido is now hoping to arrive in the Bronx before Eneli turns 17 on July 5.
‘I told her I would travel anywhere or be in any place for the celebration’ he said.
