A drug addict accused of using his own son as a human shield against a drug dealer is now in police custody.
Nafes Monroe used his toddler Yaseem Munir as a tiny bullet buffer in a crossfire.
The baby is hospitalized in critical condition after he got four bullets as his father used him to protect himself. One of the bullets hit the little kid in the head.
Nafes, from Philadelphia, was arrested by the police.
He has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child as well as endangering another person. The toddler, on the other hand, is struggling with his life.
Eleven-month-old Yaseem was traveling in the back seat of a car with his father, his stepmom and another person who’s still unknown when the incident took place.
The reported cause of the firing was that Nafes was using fake currency notes to acquire drugs.
Anthony Voci from District Attorney Office told 6ABC News: “When they find out that they’re being burned with counterfeit money, they act violently.
“A human shield is probably the term that I would use.”
According to Voci, Nafes only brought the child to the situation because he knew they won’t shoot him with a baby around.
The druggie father didn’t even have the decency to take the badly injured child to an emergency room.
He drove the bleeding toddler straight to his home, ten minutes away from the hospital, and dumped him at a local medical center without following up and left the place.
According to CBS Philly, the probable shooter, 29-year-old Francisco Ortiz, has been arrested for charges of attempted murder.
According to NBC Los Angeles, Yaseem is in critical condition even after a whole month of being admitted to St. Christopher’s Hospital.
Yaseem’s father was previously arrested for violating probation, and chances are, he’ll also be charged with using a fake currency other than the charges stated earlier.
“My son is fighting for his life and it is not fair … How could anyone be so heartless!” Yaseem’s mother told ABC13 NEWS in a statement.
“Please do the right thing and help us find some form of closure or answers in this tragic situation. Help us find the shooter. I can’t eat or sleep.
“I need justice for my baby. For the coward who did this to him, you will pay, even if it not today or tomorrow. God will handle you accordingly.”
