The letter, which features a hand-drawn King George VI stamp on the envelope, was written in 1937 when the woman’s grandfather was still a boy.

However, she doesn’t know whether her grandpa’s wish was granted.

The letter reads: “Dear Santa Claus. Ten days from now, Christmas will be here. All little girls and boys at school and those who are ill in be will be made happier and know when you call.

“I would like a Meccano set and, hoping for the best, I wish you a merry Christmas.”

Meccano is created in 1989 by Frank Hornby in Liverpool, England. It has been included on thousands of Christmas lists since the company was established ten years later.

“My Grandfather’s letter to Santa in 1937. I only found these a couple days ago,” she wrote.

“My mum was clearing through my Grannies stuff and it was in the envelope with a bunch of poems and letters in a small bag.

“I have no idea how they are in such good condition.”

While many Reddit users commented on her grandfather’s Christmas request, others praised his ‘beautiful’ handwriting.

“You can tell he used his very best handwriting and most polite language – that’s adorable.”

Another said: “Good choice! The original Lego Technic and it predated the Erector set.”

A third added: “You should frame it and then you have an awesome decoration to hang up at Christmas and your kids and grandkids will have it too.”
