There is no doubt that parents love their children unconditionally but some may feel a little disappointed for a short period of time if the gender is not what they are hoping for.
That is exactly what one father feels when he found out that his wife is pregnant again with their third son.
Taking to the popular forum Mumsnet, the unnamed dad described his heartache when his children celebrated that their baby brother is on the way.
“Watching my two sons celebrating that they are having another baby brother, their dad, me, a single child – who spent the last 25 years dreaming that one day I will have a daughter of my own – has come to a realization that this dream will stay a dream for the rest of my life,” the father wrote.
He explained that as the father, he must accept the fact and stay strong for his family as most parents do not care about the gender as long as their babies are healthy.
“On the other hand, I am extremely worried that deep in my mind I will never accept the fact of not having a daughter for the rest of my life.”
Fellow Mumsnet users were quick to show their support, with one parent writing: “This is something that is close to your heart so I think that you need to allow yourself to grieve. It is a loss of something you very much hoped for. And from my experience of grief (for something different) it really does get easier over time.”
Another commented: “Gender disappointment is a real thing and you mustn’t feel bad about it. What I would do is ask myself what I think a daughter could bring to your life that a son couldn’t.
“Either way, take care of yourself, and don’t judge yourself so hardly.”
