A baffled husband has spoken out and sought advice after his wife went bonkers over a cheap cake.
As the man in question revealed in his Reddit post, his wife became furious and refused to sleep in the same bed as him after he bought a $6 cake that he saw at a local store even though no one was celebrating birthday.
He explained that he didn’t think much of his purchase because the cake was cheap and “his family liked” the flavor he picked out.
When his wife saw the cake, however, the man was in for a big surprise. Not only did the woman order him to take the cake back but she also demanded he gets a refund even though the seal on the box was already damaged.
After his wife’s bizarre reaction, the man decided to finish the cake with his cake without leaving a single crumb behind for his wife.
Later that day, the woman found out the cake wasn’t returned to the store and became furious.
“I got home and my wife protested saying ‘you don’t buy a cake unless it’s for a birthday.’ She demanded I return it for a refund however the seal was already torn off so the store would not be able to resell it,” the husband wrote.
“An argument struck up and out of spite, let my children and myself eat the cake by ourselves, not leaving a crumb for my wife. She has not talked to me since, and refuses to even sleep in the same bed. Over a cake.”
After the man asked the internet for advice, people were quick to suggest that he didn’t do anything wrong and that he doesn’t need his wife’s permission to buy a dessert.
Many, however, were also left pondering why the woman reacted so harshly over a cheap cake.
“Something else seems to be triggering this reaction from the wife. Money problems? Disagreement over budgeting?” someone suggested.
“Speculating wildly because he doesn’t give any detail, but someone with severe food issues might react to a cake like that, as in ‘desserts are only for the most special occasions and otherwise cannot be in the house at all.’ Without any other explanation, disordered eating might explain the severe overreaction,” another said.
A third wrote: “Not to make it about me, but a long time ago, I got upset with my ex for spending $13 on candy from the Dollar Tree.
I was livid because I was spending 100% of my money on the 100% of the bills while he had thirteen dollars to spend on candy from DT. Wonder if something similar is going on where the $6 cake is a luxury item.”
