But one bride-to-be has revealed that she uninvited her dad to her big day because he refused to pay for the wedding unless it is entirely vegan – from food, beverages, and outfits.

Taking to Reddit, the furious woman explained that it started about five years ago when her father started a relationship with a woman who is ‘vegan and very judgmental to how I live.’

“Long story short, my father will only pay for my wedding if it’s vegan. This not only includes food, but shoes, alcohol, what other people wear (eg. leather) and anything else you can think of,” she wrote.

“I might have been ok with vegan food, but I’m not ok with policing what others wear or food they may bring for their babies (even formula) etc.”

The bride-to-be said that her father’s demands left her upset, adding that it wasn’t about the money as they were planning to have a small and cheap wedding.

“In the run up to the wedding this woman has also been extremely rude to my mother. On reflection I have now decided it’s best all round that they do not attend,” she added.

The bride-to-be explained that the woman started telling her dad’s side of the family that it is “about the money” but “to be honest it’s not really about the money.”

She explained that she didn’t want to be controlled over what she can and can’t do on her big day.

“I also don’t want to be lectured over milk, dairy, honey, palm oil you name it, on my wedding day and I don’t want to put my guests through it either.”

People on Reddit were quick to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “I think you’re right that it will be better if they don’t come since they can’t keep themselves from trying to control everything and everyone around them. It’s insufferable and you don’t need that headache on your wedding day.”

Another commented: “Honestly, I’d invite my dad but not his GF [girlfriend], explain to him the issues you have with her.”

A third added: “All this but I would also have a conversation with your dad. That you love him very much and would have wanted him at the wedding but that policing what other people wear is not okay. Etc.”
