‘I REFUSE To Go To My Sister’s Wedding Because I Don’t Want To Cancel My Holiday Plans – Am I The One Being Unreasonable Here?’

Taking to Reddit, the sister explained that her sister was planning to get married in a couple of weeks but she already made plans to go on a vacation.

“My sister and her fiancé plan on getting married in a couple of weeks,” she wrote. “That’s great. He makes her happy. They sprung this on us about a month ago. They don’t want a big production so it will be a small wedding and reception. Maybe 40 people all told.”

The bride was quick to slam her sister for prioritizing her holiday plans that she got their parents involved.

“She thinks I’m being an a**hole for thinking my vacation is more important than her wedding,” she continued.

“She got our parents involved. So I told them I would cut my vacation short to attend the wedding if she paid for my theatre [sic] tickets I’m not going to use and any cancellation or rebooking fees.”

Their parents then said that they would pay using some of the money that they wanted to give for the bride.

“She said I was being petty taking their money. So I said f***k it and I’m not changing my plan,” she went on.

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “If you being there was important to her she should have liaised with you about the date. People getting married need to understand everybody else’s lives don’t stop just because they are getting married.”

Another commented: “I had a small wedding too and we had to reschedule last minute. I reached out to the people I really wanted to be there to see if they had any plans that couldn’t be canceled [sic]. My sister had a trip she couldn’t reschedule so I picked another date.

“People send save the dates for a reason; if it’s last minute it’s not on the guests to lose money or miss out on long term plans to accommodate.”
