‘I BANNED My Parents From Changing My Baby’s Diaper Because I Want To ‘Protect My Son’s Privacy’ But Am I In The Wrong?’

A mother has sparked a debate online after she revealed that she banned her parents from changing her baby’s diaper.

Taking to Mumsnet, she explained that she was keen on protecting her son’s privacy.

“I prefer that only myself and my partner are the ones to change DS (darling son’s) diaper,” she wrote. “Obviously, I understand if we’re not available due to nursery eventually or if someone else is babysitting then I’m happy for someone else to do it however this has not yet been the case.”

The mother also said that the issue arose when her mother-in-law changed her newborn son’s diaper.

“(The baby) continued crying throughout the change and she gave him back straight after but it annoyed me as it wasn’t her place to change him,” she went on.

The woman also explained that she was ‘trying to be nice and friendly’ so she did not say anything to her mother-in-law at that time.

But now, she’s starting to find her mother-in-law more overbearing.

“I’m getting close to drawing a line,” she added.

People on the forum were quick to share their thoughts on the situation, with one person writing: “Is your MIL actually overbearing, or are you constantly pushing back and trying to stop her spending time with the baby?

“At the end of the day you are the babies mum and nothing will change that, but having positive relationships with family is important and you should be encouraging this. Boundaries are important too and if she is genuinely being too much then you should address that.”

Another wrote: “Your poor MIL. If she’d sat there and let you do it you’d have moaned she was unhelpful/uninvolved/uninterested.”
