40-year-old Katie McKid, her 41-year-old husband Rob Trespess and their eight-year-old daughter, Summer stopped in the middle of the road to watch the impressive sand storm.

The family filmed the incredible moment that shows a tsunami of orange dust approaching their car. The family jumped back into the car as soon as it approached their car and filmed the amazing sand storm.

Katie said: “It looked like the huge Australian rock called, Uluru, in the distance and we were quite amazed by the sight and we were also surprised at how quickly it seemed to loom up ahead of us.”

“We pulled over on a clear patch of road to witness it and get some photos but it was even more amazing than I had thought. It rolled towards us like a huge tsunami of dust.”

“The storm front passed in less than five minutes but it left a thick dust haze in its wake. It was quite eerie, and it went very dark, but red and visibility was very low – we could barely see the guide post in front of the car. It was amazing to experience.”

The family was heading for a New Year’s Eve celebrations when they witnessed the impressive sand storm.

Katie said she never saw something like this in her lifetime. Though she heard her parents and grandparents talk about dust storms like this, she never witnessed it herself.

She added: “We spent New Year’s Day cleaning dust from the house, but we found it to be an amazing experience and were grateful to have been there to witness it. Rob and I love to collect experiences so this was a win for us!”

The video of the orange sand storm went viral instantly after it was posted online. Many internet users said they watched the orange storm for the first time while many claimed they had experienced it before.
