‘I Did NOT Invite My Son-In-Law To Our Family Dinner Because He Is Not As Successful As My Children,’ A Woman Reveals

A woman who said that she did not invite her son-in-law to their Christmas dinner because he wasn’t as successful as her children has been slammed online.

She took to Reddit and explained that her husband has two children from a previous relationship – a 31-year-old son and a 35-year-old daughter.

“His daughter lives in a different country but is in low contact with us, so we have very little to do with her,” she said.

“His son lives only 15 minutes away, and we see him from time to time. He’s not a bad guy, just very different to my husband and me,” the mother continued. “Their real mother died when they were both in their teens.”

The mother has a 41-year-old son, who is a ‘very successful’ stockbroker, and her husband’s son is a ‘moderately successful photographer.’

“We invited his son along four years ago, and even though he did try to fit in, it just wasn’t a good fit. He thought it appropriate to show up in jeans and a t-shirt; I was so embarrassed, I could hardly look anyone in the eyes,” she continued.

“Ever since that year, we decided not to invite him again, this never seemed to be an issue until this year.

“We showed up at his home early morning. We had plans to go over to my son’s house at around 11:00, so we didn’t really have time, so we just dropped off a gift for him and left. He bought nothing for us.

“Later that day, my husband texted him to ask if he had enjoyed the rest of Xmas, to which he replied, ‘Oh right, that’s what today was, thanks for the chocolate and 3-minute visit’.

“My husband was very upset by this, but I was outraged. I wanted to contact him and put him in his place, but my husband took my phone away and told me to let it go.”

The woman went on: “It’s been two days now, he and my husband are talking again, and both seem to have just moved past it, but I’m still mad. It’s not my fault that he is less successful than my family and just can’t fit in with us.”

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “It’s no wonder the daughter is already low-contact with you guys.”

Another wrote: “How the hell would he magically know jeans weren’t okay or that anyone would give a s**t?”

A third said: “The father is his children’s only surviving parent. And all he got was a 3-minute visit with his own son so that he could spend the rest of his day with HER child!? This makes my head explode.”
