Taking to Reddit, the unnamed son explained that he and his wife just welcomed a baby. When his mother paid them a visit, she brought her boyfriend as well.

The son also explained that he and his wife came from very different families.

“In my mom’s world you don’t ever ask a guest to do something like that (chores around the house). In my wife’s family they are very close, a bit suffocating at times to be honest, and everyone pitches in,” he wrote.

The man said that when he and his wife stay with his in-laws, they will be given tasks to do around the house. But this doesn’t happen when they stay with his family.

So when the mother visited them to see the baby and the wife asked her to help with the baby’s laundry, the mother was shocked but tried to fulfill the request.

“Her boyfriend went in the laundry room with her and was like ‘why would she ask you to do that, why are you doing it?’ My mom said she just doesn’t want to fight with me anymore,” the man wrote.

However, things went sour when he heard what his mom said next: “Her boyfriend was like ‘ok but to be clear if my mom came over would you ever ask her to do work?’ My mom said ‘no, I’m not trashy.’”

The furious son then entered the laundry room and confronted his mother and her boyfriend.

“My mom tossed the things at me and said good, I can wash them as it isn’t her house and she did not choose to bring our son into the world,” he went on, adding he told his mother that she crossed a line by calling his wife names in their own home.

“I told her to get out and she isn’t half the woman my wife is. My mom told me we are both trashy and she is done with us,” he added.

People on Reddit were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person writing: “Don’t visit a home with a newborn for more than 5 minutes if you don’t intend to help them out.”

Another said: “I guess I’m trashy as well. I will wash clothes or dishes, sweep ,mop, fold clothes etc. It’s about helping people you care about, not being an additional chore for them.”
