A woman who has been with her husband for 15 years has revealed that she hasn’t met her in-laws as she thinks that she didn’t have to.

For almost two decades, the woman has managed to avoid meeting her husband’s parents and hasn’t even spoken to them on video call even though her husband urges her to.

Taking to Mumsnet, she explained: “I have never met nor appeared on video chat with my family-in-law.”

She then remembered that she appeared on video chat once and said ‘hello’ to her mother-in-law before vanishing.

“They’ve also witnessed me trying to pass by without being noticed, walking on my knees,” she went on.

The wife said that this has not been a problem in their marriage. Whenever his parents ask to see her and his siblings ‘pester him’ about talking to her, she refuses.

But now, her husband said that it is about time to meet his family.

“I hate appearing on film and would have no idea what to say. I feel the fact it’s gone on so long just makes it seem even weirder to suddenly decide to talk to them,” she went on and asked whether she was being unreasonable.

Mumsnet users were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person commenting: “Yes, you are the most unreasonable of unreasonable people on unreasonable day in unreasonable land.”

Another said: “Yes, you’re being really weird.”

A third added: “15 years and you’ve never said hello to them? I find that strange. It seems natural to introduce yourself and make an effort to be part of your [husband’s] family.”

Someone else joked: “How is it possible – not seeing the in law for 15 years? Please teach me.”
