The sister of one of the fallen US troops in the Kabul bombing screamed at President Joe Biden, telling him to ‘burn in h*ll’ as she received the remains on Sunday.
Heartbroken families shared their observations and conversations with the president during the dignified transfer of service members’ remains on Sunday.
Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz’s father, Mark Schmitz, told The Washington Post that he showed a photo of his son to Biden and said: “Don’t you ever forget that name. Don’t you ever forget that face. Don’t you ever forget the names of the other 12. And take some time to learn their stories.”
Schmitz said that the president did not seem to like his comments.
“I do know their stories,” he said that Biden replied.
Schmitz also said that a grieving sister of a fallen marine screamed the president as she left the dignified transfer of remains ceremony: “I hope you burn in h*ll! That was my brother!”
“I can’t fault her for it,” Schmitz said. “We all lost somebody.”
Parents and families gathered in Dover, Delaware where the remains of the 13 troops killed in the blast near Kabul airport arrived.
The grieving family of Marine Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum was also present as his remains returned to the U.S.
According to the Post, McCollum’s widow Jiennah was left disappointed by her conversation with Biden.
McCollum’s sister, Roice, said Jiennah thought the president sounded scripted during their interaction.
“He cannot possibly understand,” Roice said. “My dad and I did not want to speak to him.”
“You cannot kneel on our flag and pretend you care about our troops,” she added.
“You can’t f**k up as bad as he did and say you’re sorry. This did not need to happen, and every life is on his hands.
“The thousands of Afghans who will suffer and be tortured is a direct result of his incompetence.”
