A frustrated woman has revealed that her husband refuses to forgive her for farting in front of her.
Taking to the forum Kidspot, the woman said that she and her husband of six years have been ‘open’ with each other most of the time but they have different opinions when it comes to farting.
“From very early on in our relationship he made his views on this specific bodily function very clear after a night out at the pub with some friends,” she wrote.
There was a time when her husband saw one of his wife’s female friends burp and complained about how ‘gross and uncouth’ the friend was.
Because of that, she tried to always keep in mind to ‘maintain this flatulence quality control’ and didn’t fart around her husband for years.
But one night while she was trying to fall asleep, she accidentally farted in front of him.
“I was lying in bed next to my wide-awake husband who had now turned to look at me with the most disgusted expression on his face that I had ever seen,” she went on.
She said that her husband told her: “That is absolutely disgusting!”
The woman felt insulted and had the ‘worst night’s sleep I’d ever had’ and apologized the next day.
Even though her husband accepted her apology, she said that he continues to remind her of what happened.
“He will use any reminder of what happened to really drum home that burping or farting is not acceptable for a woman to do,” she continued.
“For example, if we watch a television show or a film and a woman burps or farts, he reminds me how disgusting it is by making a disgruntled noise or even talking about how uncivilized it is afterwards.”
Dr. Shannon Chavez, a therapist and psychologist, said that passing gas in front of your partner is a sign of openness.
“It is all human and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. A couple tackling this topic is setting a healthy foundation for open and honest communication,” she said.
