A woman has shared how her fiancé got mad at her after she told him that she didn’t like the idea of bringing his daughter along on their honeymoon.
Taking to Reddit, the pregnant mother explained that her future husband’s 9-year-old daughter was nice but she didn’t feel any love for her.
She also said that letting the young girl join them on their honeymoon would only make her feel uncomfortable.
“I do my best to make her feel welcome and at home when she’s with us,” the woman wrote.
“Honestly, though I have no major bond with her, I don’t feel any real love for her, no matter how much I try. That’s just how I feel. But I am always kind/considerate towards her and would never be mean or nasty to her.
“She does irritate me though from time to time and honestly, I am glad on a Sunday evening when she is going back home to her mother’s”
They had agreed that they would bring their baby along with them because she would still be too young to be left with a relative for a week but she didn’t want his 9-year-old daughter to come along too.
“She’s not my daughter and I just don’t feel fully comfortable when she’s around. I wouldn’t be able to relax in the same way,” she added.
Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person writing: “This story breaks my heart. The writing is on the wall for this nine-year-old to feel excluded from her ‘dad’s family’ for the rest of her life. But it’s not too late. Try harder or end things now.”
Another said: “You are clearly drawing a line in the sand where it is you, your husband, and YOUR kid on one side and his child on the other. That is not how you blend a family.
“Either don’t go on the trip until it can be the two of you or make it a family vacation. If you can’t manage to embrace those options, what business do you have marrying someone with a child that isn’t ‘yours’?”
