David and Hannah Hill, 31 and 28, were both fast asleep when they were suddenly roused by a large crash. When they went to investigate, they found a huge truck where their lounge was supposed to be.

As a result of the 3:30 am collision, their home will likely have to be torn down due to the massive amount of damage to the structure of the house. It still remains to be seen if that will indeed be the case, which only adds to the stress the Hill family is undergoing right now.

A motorist who was there when the crash happened contacted police.

The only good news is that David’s 10 and 12-year-old daughters were both staying at their mother’s house. Their room is located at the front of the house where the truck smashed through.

David said: “We were spending Christmas Day at our family’s house but we were going to have 10 people around our house on Boxing Day but that’s obviously canceled. We’re essentially homeless so we’re staying with family. We’re probably going to be with family for three to four weeks at the very least.

“It’s a very stressful situation – all our belongings and Christmas presents are in the house. Our neighbors have checked on us and have offered us tea and coffee.

“B&Q has been amazing too, they are keeping in contact with me and they even offered to pay for a hotel for us but we’re staying with family. I’m just glad no-one is hurt.”

After the truck was pulled out of the house, structural engineers immediately went to inspect the damage although they haven’t come out with a verdict yet whether the house needs to be demolished or not.

A spokeswoman for B&Q, a DIY firm, said: “B&Q and Wincanton, our fleet operators, are co-operating fully with the police to understand what happened.”

She added that the company expressed its “heartfelt apologies” to the family involved and that they would “support them however we can.”
