‘I Don’t Want To Babysit My Grandson Unless My Daughter Pays Me An Hourly Rate Of $12 Because I Am Not A Daycare’

Most grandparents will do anything to spend some quality time with their grandchildren but one grandma has gone viral on social media after she ranted online.

The grandmother took to Reddit and said that her daughter, 29, has asked her to babysit her grandson for two or three days a week as she will return to work.

“She works five days a week, about 7-8 hours a day from 7.30 am-3 pm, and asked me if I would be willing to babysit her son either two or three days a week,” the grandmother wrote.

The grandmother explained that she wants to spend quality time with her grandson. However, she wanted to be paid $12 per hour to babysit him, saying that she is ‘not a day care’ and that she has her own life.

She said that her daughter agreed but suggested a lower rate of $10 per hour.

“She claims that she cannot afford it, even with her $22-an-hour job,” the grandmother wrote.

“I’m not a daycare, I have my own life, I work for myself and I think she should understand that I’d be giving up my time when I work from home, and if I’m going to be giving up that time then I need money to replace that time I’m giving up from my job.”

After ranting online, many people struggled to sympathize with her.

One person commented: “You’re not a day-care, no, you’re not much of a grandmother either.”

Another wrote: “Most grandparents would be grateful to spend time with grandchildren.”

But others agreed with the grandmother and said that she has a right to charge her daughter for the hours she’ll spend babysitting her grandson.
