A father has shared how his girlfriend was left furious after he asked her for payment to spend time with their sick baby.

Taking to Reddit, the unnamed dad explained that their 10-month-old son goes to daycare four days a week and sometimes it is his girlfriend’s mother who watches over him.

But when the baby got sick and he had to stay home for a few days to take care of him, he asked his girlfriend to pay him.

“Since I don’t have any paid time off left, I don’t get paid for staying home,” the dad said. “I asked that she either stay home more often with our son when he’s sick, or that she pay me for staying home with him because I am out of paid time off.

“Since our finances are separate, I feel like she’s prioritizing her career and her money over me and our son.”

But the mother was shocked by his suggestion and said he didn’t know how hard it has been for her when she returned to work after maternity leave.

“She said that her money is our money and that she’s not going to pay me to stay home with our son because it’s not her fault that I ran out of paid time off days,” the dad went on.

His girlfriend also told him that he was out of line to even ask for payment to take care of their son.

People on Reddit were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person writing: “This one right here!!! Sorry bud but you’re a parent and you need to figure out how to take care of your kids and work.”

Another said: “’Please pay me to take care of my son’ sounds reasonable to you?”
