The young lady in question, 18, says her parents turned on her and threatened her with legal action after she left the nest the day she legally became an adult.

According to the girl, she cut all contact with her “possessive” parents who allegedly lived off her income and beat her when she was younger.

Taking to Reddit to ask for advice, the teen explained how she was forced to pay a portion of her income to her parents while still living with them. And while this was not a problem, she definitely didn’t expect her parents would want to continue taking cash from her even after she moved out.

“They sent me a letter in the mail threatening to sue me for moving out,” the 18-year-old wrote.

In the comments, she added: “They used to force me to give up a portion of my paycheck for gratitude, it wasn’t bills I was ‘voluntary’ giving them the money but now they’re saying it’s a loss of income.

“They finically abused me and they beat me as a child they have no proof of any of it. They want to sue me for $5,000 in emotional damages and loss of income. Which no judge will ever actually go for in my situation but I almost admire the effort.”

After sharing her story, the teenager received plenty of support online with people urging her not to cave in under pressure.

“You really want to get their goat? Ignore them. They won’t sue. If they do, the judge will laugh them out of court,” someone advised.

“I’m sorry your parents are like that. I’m glad you got out and I hope you don’t let any of this shape your now bright future,” another said.
