The family from Melbourne were enjoying their vacation in Fiji when they suddenly noticed a blister on Bella Macey’s foot.

But the blister suddenly got infected and caused inflammation, which became Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or CRPS is a rare neurological disorder that occurs after an injury, a stroke, a surgery or a heart attack.

The cause of this rare condition is poorly understood but it results in extreme pain.

Macey was left suffering with agonizing shooting pains up her right leg that would leave her screaming.

“It’s all sharp, it’s burning, it’s tingly, it’s all sore,” she told A Current Affair. “It’s different pain that I never knew was possible.”

“I can’t have a shower, I can’t have a bath,” Bella continued. “I can’t put (on) any sheets or anything on. Even with a tissue, you can’t touch it with anything, otherwise I will scream.”

It is not clear what exactly causes CRPS but it is believed that it could be due to the nerves becoming more sensitive, which may change the pain pathways between the brain and the affected limb.

Since her diagnosis, the 10-year-old has lost movement in her leg and requires a wheelchair to get around.

Her parents, Emma and Chris, have now turned overseas for possible treatment options as nothing could alleviate their daughter’s pain.

The mother has since created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for Bella’s medical expenses.

“Bella has been in hospital for 4 weeks now and unfortunately, there is no treatment available to her at the RCH or elsewhere in Australia that will treat the cause of the pain,” Emma wrote.

“She has been on intense medication, none of which have worked and we are desperate to send her to a clinic overseas that is specialized (sic) and has credentials in providing remission for their patients.”

The mother stressed how every donation would help her daughter. “No matter the size, will make a significant impact on Bella’s journey towards recovery.”
