Following the service, thirty attendees were diagnosed with COVID-19 and five of them ended up in the hospital due to complications related to the disease.

“We tried to do everything right, but of course when you’re grieving, you let your guard down,” the deceased’s daughter, Stephanie Schindler, said in an interview with Minneapolis Star Tribune.

“One of my friends that got sick was wearing a mask the whole time. But, of course, when you’re crying, you’re going to be rubbing your face.”

As the grieving daughter went on to explain, the funeral attendees were doing their best to stay apart from each other and wear face masks.

After a while, however, tears came flowing down and people allegedly began comforting each other by sharing hugs and holding hands.

According to Schindler’s friend, Kathleen Keene, people also removed their face masks as they sat down to enjoy coffee and feast on donuts following the burial.

“Take it seriously. It’s real. I do not wish this on anyone. This is the worst virus I’ve ever had,” Keene warned in her Facebook post after catching the virus and falling ill.

After getting diagnosed with COVID-19, Keene insisted she doesn’t blame fellow funeral attendees for letting their guard down.

“I blame the blatant disregard for this pandemic, the egotistical, prideful, and conspiratorial minded folks who just can’t seem to take this seriously,” she said.
