After the news of the event had spread, however, some 80 to 100 people allegedly arrived at the teenager’s home, prompting the police to storm the party and fine the family £10,000 ($13,000) for flouting Covid-19 restrictions.

Following the event, the 18-year-old’s parents refused to pay the fine and complained to the police. As The Times reported, the family is determined to take the case to the court if the penalty is not lifted.

According to the parents, their son shouldn’t be required to pay the massive fine since the majority of revelers allegedly appeared without invitation.

While the number of people attending gatherings was limited to 30 at the time of the boy’s party, the majority of the attendees were gatecrashers according to the family.

“He was utterly stupid. He ignored our instructions and the government advice,” the teen’s father admitted in an interview with Wiltshire Gazette and Herald.

“He is very chastened. But they were gatecrashed. This is a completely new law. We have never had legal restrictions on the number of people in a house before.

“This could go to the Supreme Court as to whether you can legally impose a criminal penalty when the majority of people were gatecrashers.”
