When starting a new job, people usually want to make a good impression.
So when a man invited his new colleagues over for dinner, he wanted to make sure everything would go well. But as soon as they arrived home, he introduced his wife as his ‘housewife’ even though she was working full time.
The wife now took to Reddit and asked people if she was in the wrong for embarrassing her husband in front of his co-workers.
“My husband invited his new co-workers over for dinner,” she wrote. “When they arrived he introduced me by gesturing at me and saying, ‘this is Mrs Smith (didn’t even say my name), the housewife.’
“I looked at him for a second then I started laughing hysterically. I then told said, ‘no honey I work full time and YES I still act like a housewife when I’m home because you simply can’t bother to help.’
“His co-workers were staring at him as he tried to laugh and change the subject and ask what they wanted to drink.”
Their dinner ended up being ‘super awkward,’ with her husband constantly giving her ‘looks and stares’ as they tried to enjoy their meal.
“Once the guests left he blew up saying I embarrassed him by laughing like a lunatic and then making the comment I made in front of his new co-workers and ruining his image. I told him he was wrong to lie about my status and deny my degree to begin with,” the wife continued.
He then suggested that she should have raised her problems with him in private instead of “making his co-workers think he’s useless.”
The wife is now asking whether she was wrong to say that in front of her husband’s co-workers.

Another shared: “Men who diminish their partners to look better at the office are gross. He only seemed to care about his embarrassment, and not yours. I’d be mortified if my husband used a lie that robbed me of my success and accomplishments to prop himself up.”
