32-year-old Gabriella Morby from Birmingham, England, decided to surprise her father, 61, and his bride with the news of her pregnancy on the day of the couple’s wedding.

During her emotional speech, Gabriella handed her dad a book that he used to read to her when she was younger. After the man opened the front cover, he saw an ultrasound scan confirming his daughter’s pregnancy.

In the background, wedding guests could be seen cheering and clapping as the father broke into tears.

While both the groom and the bride seemed to be happy with the announcement, the daughter was branded as selfish and inconsiderate after she shared the clip of the surprise online.

“I wanted to announce the news in a special way where they would be surprised and not expect it and also knowing they would be surrounded by their close family and friends to share in the moment of them finding out they were both becoming grandparents,” she explained.

Her actions, however, were met with severe backlash from critics saying she stole the attention not only from her father but also from her stepmom by making their day about herself.

“Not the right time to announce her pregnancy. I wonder how the step mom bride really felt at having her day upstaged by announcement,” one person wrote.

“If your dad loved it, fine, but why would you want to focus the attention on you, when it was clearly their day,” another said.

A third suggested: “You made THEIR day all about YOU. Very selfish if you ask me.”

Gabriella has since hit back at her critics saying she made the announcement purely for her dad and stepmom without any hidden agenda.

“Being called ‘selfish’ online was quite hurtful as my decision to announce my pregnancy was to make my dad and stepmom even more happy on their special day. It wasn’t meant to be about me at all,” she claimed.

“I was nervous about doing a speech in the first place, let alone announcing that I was pregnant in front of all those people.  I did it purely for my dad and stepmom. There certainly wasn’t any other intention.

“I felt saddened and shocked by the criticism online. I would never have done anything like this at say a friend’s wedding but this was my dad and stepmom’s wedding.”
