‘My 14-Year-Old Daughter Is Mad At Me After I Removed Her Bedroom Door But Am I The One Being Unreasonable Here?

A mother has shared how her 14-year-old daughter was left furious after she removed her bedroom door.

Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that her daughter would slam the door whenever she went out or entered her room, shaking the walls and waking everyone up.

Even though she nicely asked her to stop doing that, the teen continued to do so and the frustrated parents decided to get rid of the door.

“When she gets up to use the bathroom at night,” the mother wrote, “she slams her bedroom door on her way out and back in. When she gets up in the morning or goes to bed at night she slams it. Pretty much any time she enters or exits her room the door gets slammed.

“And it’s only her door, none of the other doors in the house. It shakes the walls and frequently wakes up everyone else in the house. Her brother’s room shares a wall with hers and our bedroom is directly above theirs.”

They told her to stop and that ‘if she slammed the door one more time she was going to come home to find it gone’ but the teen shouted back and slammed the door multiple times ‘as hard as she could.’

“Well the next day (Friday) she went to school and my husband and I both had the day off so we took the door off the frame and installed a curtain rod with a nice heavy curtain over the door instead,” the mother added.

“She sulked all weekend and won’t talk to us now.”

People on Reddit supported the parents’ decision to remove the door, with one person commenting: “Because her slamming the door is so loud it wakes everyone else up, and she refuses to not slam the door, this is the best alternative.”

Another said: “Interrupting everyone’s sleep is unacceptable. You gave her plenty of opportunities to change her door-slamming behaviour and she didn’t do it.”
