A woman has taken to the internet to share how she has been trying to change her cousin’s mind about the name she wanted for her baby girl.
“My cousin is due in July with a baby girl,” she wrote on Reddit. “During her whole pregnancy, she has been dropping hints about the name she picked.
“She would say things like, ‘Children bring this’. My first guess was something normal like Hope. I figured children bring hope to the world.”
But when the cousin finally revealed what she was planning, the woman and their family were left shocked.
The expecting mom told them that she wanted to name her baby girl ‘Light Bringer,’ and her nickname would be Brings.
“I thought she was joking, but she isn’t. I decided to video chat with my cousin and politely ask her if she’d want to change the name,” she went on.
“I offered some alternatives and she wouldn’t budge. I told her that the name Lucifer means Light Bringer. She did not care.”
The woman then said that she found out that her cousin had also considered other names that were better than Light Bringer.
“She had Andromeda, Cassiopeia, and Starr to name a few. I asked her why she didn’t like those names, and she just shrugged,” she went on.
Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts, with one writing: “It’s a terrible name and the child is going to be bullied mercilessly in school. But it’s really not your place to do anything other than say you like or don’t like only if asked.”
Another said: “Just be there for the child when she gets tormented at school and resist the ‘I told you so’ impulse.”
A third added: “Your cousin is a total a**hat (who’s going to ruin their child’s childhood) for bringing infertility into the conversation. It’s a terrible, stupid name.”
