Facebook And Google Told Their Staff They’d Be Working From Home Until 2021


Facebook and Google have become the latest tech companies to acknowledge the fact that the lockdown would extend much later than what most of the people were assuming.

The CEO of the most used search engine in the world, Sundar Pichai, has reportedly told his staff in a meeting that they’d not be coming to the office until the next year.

The employees who can’t work from home will start returning to their offices by the start of July but strict safety measures will be put in place in their workplaces.

Most of the people who can work from home would not be called to their offices until the coronavirus situation is completely dealt with.

Likewise, Facebook has also made it clear that most of their employees would not be returning to their normal positions until the next year.

Facebook and Google are not alone in this. A number of other companies are also rolling out their schedules for calling their workforces back to work as soon as things get better.

A spokesperson for the social media giant said: “Facebook has taken the next step in its return to work philosophy.

“Today, we announced anyone who can do their work remotely can choose to do so through the end of the year.

“As you can imagine this is an evolving situation as employees and their families make important decisions re: return to work.”

The spokesperson added that it has not yet been decided by Facebook which employees will be returning to work and which ones won’t.

Facebook is one of the pioneers of the ‘work from home’ idea. They were the first ones to let their employees work from home when the COVID-19 scene started to unroll.

Facebook didn’t only give its employees the freedom to work from home, they also gave them $1,000 in wage bonus to make things easy for them and to let them easily cover their childcare expenditures.
