In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, some people have been resorting to hoarding foods and other essentials amid fears that stores could be closed.
While the governments urged people to avoid panic-buying because supermarkets will remain open, some individuals continue to hoard items and confront those who stand in their way.
Meanwhile, plenty of supermarkets have imposed their own limits on purchases in order to ensure that enough is left for everyone and not just those who hoard supplies.
In a recent incident that occurred at a Woolworths in Australia, an employee was allegedly abused by shoppers to the point she broke into tears and had to be comforted.
“These poor workers are being brought to tears because of the way people are treating them, blaming them and abusing them for something they have no control of,” wrote the woman who shared the saddening photo of the employee crying on social media.
“They’re humans just like the rest of us, trying to make a living, trying to do the best job they possibly can for everyone at the moment.
“Before you look for someone to blame for all of this mayhem, maybe try and think about the fact that these people are just trying to do their jobs and don’t need to be abused every 10 minutes just because Woolworths and Coles is out of stock.
“Be a decent human in these time you never know what someone is struggling with in their lives and you’re abusing someone over not being able to buy three packets of pasta or some toilet paper.”
Responding to the distressing photo were other workers who shared their own stories of verbal abuse they encountered amid the crisis.
“Walked into Woolworths wearing my Kmart uniform and got yelled at because they didn’t have toilet paper. Even though I didn’t work at Woolworths,” someone claimed.
“Half an hour into the day and we already had to call security and the police. Enough is enough guys. Treat each other with respect. We are just doing our job,” another one said.
