After discovering she was pregnant with a girl for the third time, Courtney Faith was excited to welcome yet another beautiful girl into the world.
Sadly, one of the tests done in the womb came back positive – there was a high chance that her baby would be born with Down syndrome. Like anyone, she was now deeply concerned with the future of her baby.

Courtney went to the person she knew would be most knowledgeable about this, her prenatal specialist, who is trained to help mothers deal with these types of pregnancies for advice.point 323 |
Courtney expected her doctor to be supportive and help her deal with everything.point 68 | Instead, her doctor not only told her that she should abort her baby, but went as far as attempting to pressure her.point 163 | Courtney refused to terminate the pregnancy, but her doctor continued to tell her that her entire family would be worse off for it! Wow! Unbelievable!point 291 | 1
Courtney was heartbroken that a doctor she had trusted would treat her this way.point 67 | She wanted to yell at the doctor and defend her unborn daughter.point 122 | But at the time she didn’t have the courage and she knew she had bigger things on her plate instead.point 211 |
She swallowed her pride.point 21 | Now more than a year later she has finally written a letter to this rude doctor.point 86 | Courtney even had Emersyn “Emmy” Faith put the letter in the mailbox.point 156 | Emmy was the baby the doctor tried to convince her to abort.point 205 |

Courtney also shared the contents of the letter on the Facebook page for Parker Myles in the hopes it may help any soon to be mothers that may be in the same position she found herself in. Her post has since gone viral.
Below is the amazing letter she wrote.
“Dear Doctor,
A friend recently told me of when her prenatal specialist would see her child during sonograms, he would comment, ‘He’s perfect.’ Once her son was born with Down syndrome, she visited that same doctor.
He looked at her little boy and said, ‘I told you. He’s perfect.’”
“Her story tore me apart. While I was so grateful for my friend’s experience, it filled me with such sorrow because of what I should have had. I wish you would have been that doctor.
I came to you during the most difficult time in my life. I was terrified, anxious and in complete despair. I didn’t know the truth yet about my baby, and that’s what I desperately needed from you. But instead of support and encouragement, you suggested we terminate our child. I told you her name, and you asked us again if we understood how low our quality of life would be with a child with Down syndrome.
You suggested we reconsider our decision to continue the pregnancy.”
“From that first visit, we dreaded our appointments. The most difficult time in my life was made nearly unbearable because you never told me the truth.
My child was perfect.
I’m not angry.point 36 | I’m not bitter.point 55 | I’m sad the tiny beating hearts you see every day don’t fill you with a perpetual awe.point 137 | I’m sad the intricate details and the miracle of those sweet little fingers and toes, lungs and eyes and ears don’t always give you pause.point 263 |
I’m sad you were so very wrong to say a baby with Down syndrome would decrease our quality of life.point 86 | And I’m heartbroken you might have said that to a mommy even today.point 147 | But I’m mostly sad you’ll never have the privilege of knowing my daughter, Emersyn.point 229 |

And my prayer is when you see that next baby with Down syndrome lovingly tucked in her mother’s womb, you will look at that mommy and see me then tell her the truth:
‘Your child is absolutely perfect.'”

This letter is so heartwarming to read. Emmy is truly loved by her mother who had to fight tooth and nail to make sure she was born. We can only hope the doctor took her letter to heart. No mother deserves to be pressured like that.
