Elon Musk Plans To Build 100 Starships Per Year And Send 1 Million People To Mars By 2050

SpaceX’s Elon Musk has once again taken the internet by storm after announcing his goals to build 100 starships per year and send around one million people to Mars by 2050.

As the space giant CEO vowed in what appears to be yet another overconfident statement, SpaceX will produce one hundred starships per year whereas three flights daily will help ensure that one million people are on the Red Planet in just three decades.

“Starship design goal is 3 flights/day avg rate, so ~1000 flights/year at >100 tons/flight, so every 10 ships yield 1 megaton [million tons] per year to orbit,” the SpaceX CEO tweeted.

“Building 100 Starships/year gets to 1000 in 10 years or 100 megatons/year or maybe around 100k people per Earth-Mars orbital sync,” he added.

Besides the proposed numbers, not much more has been revealed about Musk’s plans on populating the Red Planet.

Since temperatures on Mars can get extremely low, people would have to live in specially designed domes whereas any human movement outside protective enclosures would require a spacesuit.

In addition, sustaining one million people, and getting to that point in the first place, would require a proper infrastructure, an abundance of food, and tremendous amounts of various other resources.

However, as Musk has previously suggested, the colonization of Mars will start as early as in 2024 when first humans are set to land on the planet.

The SpaceX mastermind has also promised “there will be a lot of jobs on Mars” and has previously shared that the cost of tickets will be low enough so that “most people in advanced economies could sell their home on Earth and move to Mars if they want.”
