Variety magazine has exposed a very revealing interview with an insider at the Ellen show, them complaining that the main stage crew of 30 has received ‘no communication’ regarding their temporary leave pays and labor hours during the course of the month-long quarantine.
Their accusation comes after Ellen DeGeneres, the frontwoman of the show has retained her public broadcast in her million dollars worth of a mansion, making many original crew members grappling at their wits about the banality she dare express.
It gets worse. The crew hadn’t been notified also of the fact that the tech company help bringing the home broadcast to the Internet and beyond is actually a non-union company, making matters seem more like a communication problem for Ellen above all else.
Sources allegedly told the magazine that the ‘higher-ups in production would occasionally answer phone calls but reveal little’ about how things are changing and what progresses are being made during their absence.
The crew now is suffering from a delirious discount, an eye-boggling 60% pay decrease, even though the show keeps earning money.
The core group of 4 members are the only one sticking around during this untold-of transition, while Ellen and her tech company is blatantly earning profits.More astoundingly, while the communication part remained dim for her, Ellen utilized the opportunity to the fullest, expanding her show from 4 to 5 shows a week, economically filming all the related episodes within 2 days of her home-stay.
Explainable only as a cost-effective cut, taking into account the fat that it takes 10-hour in the normal studio to film an episode, this should save her some money, while the absent crew members have been notified that they will be paid for 16 hours in total amount, a very draconian cut at that.
The Warner Bros, the executive company responsible for the Ellen show, has regretfully explained their excuses: ‘Our executive producers and Telepictures are committed to taking care of our staff and crew and have made decisions first and foremost with them in mind.’
A representative from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees union said they will keep a very close eye on the progression of this case, and warned them to ‘watch closely’ if there were to be any more subsequent measures taken.
