The 18-year-old who is known as ‘Egg Boy’ raised money for 902 refugees to be released from camps.
Will Connolly from Melbourne smashed an egg on Queensland Senator Fraser Anning’s head and shared the crazy moment on his Instagram.
He took to Instagram and thanked his followers for helping him raise money for 902 refugees. The post has garnered thousands of likes and the boy has become an overnight sensation after he chucked an egg at Queensland Senator Fraser Anning’s head for his comments on Muslim immigration moments following the Christchurch massacre.
The teen wrote: ‘I received this message explaining that the money that was raised from this Instagram account allowed 902 children in refugee camps to be enrolled in child friendly places,’
‘It says that I was the ‘highest individual fundraiser in Australia’ it wasn’t me at all… it was all you guys following me who made all the difference! I straight up have the best following out! And for a that I am so proud.
‘Thank you so much. You have all made a massive impact on each of these 902 children’s lives and that’s something to live for! Thanks again!’
On 15th March, 51 Muslims died in the terrorist attack. After smashing an egg on Anning’s head Connolly was hit in the face twice by Senator Anning and four of the senator’s supporters tackled the boy to the ground and put him in a choke-hold.
The controversial incident quickly went viral and Connolly received the support of a lot of people. Some even called for him to be the next Prime Minister and free life-time entry to gigs by major Australian bands. A street artist in Melbourne honored the teen by painting a mural.
A GoFundMe page was launched by Connolly’s supporters for his legal fees that have since raised nearly $80,000 which he donated to the families of the victims.
