US Geological Survey has reported that a powerful 5.
7-magnitude earthquake had struck Salt Lake City in Utah and left thousands of people without power on Wednesday at 7:09 am.
The earthquake, which was reported to be the strongest in 28 years, caused thousands of households to experience power loss and brought the city to a stop.
According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was 10 miles off the city whereas nearly three million people in a 100-mile area are believed to have felt the tremors.
When the ground started shaking, some residents were reportedly seen running outside their homes and waiting on the streets for it to end.
After the incident, some people have also taken to social media to share pictures of the mess created inside their homes by the tremors.
While no injuries were reported, Rocky Mountain Power revealed that some 55,000 households and companies were left without power.
Speaking of the natural disaster, the spokesperson for Utah Emergency Management urged people to work together to “make sure everyone is taken care of.”
“We´re hearing of lights falling down, bookcases falling down, we’ve heard of water lines breaking inside of buildings,” Joe Dougherty said.
“This is the time for people to really do the right thing, make sure everyone is taken care of. But we still do need to remember we have a pandemic going on at the same time.”
