5.0 Earthquake Hit Alaska, Tremors Were Felt In Two Major Cities


On August 31ST, 2019 the Alaska Earthquake Center reported that Southern Alaska was hit with a 5.

0 earthquake. The tremble was felt by people in the capital city, Juneau.

According to the centre, the earthquake hit the city around 8.32 pm on Saturday. It had an epicentre of 43 miles at the west of Klukwan, a village that inhabitants 95 people. Furthermore, the earthquake had a depth of less than a mile.

The people of Juneau took it to twitter to inform that they felt the tremble. As of now, there is no report of any significant damages in the region.

The centre reported it could be an aftershock from the massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Alaska on November 30, 2018. Prior to this, there were also reports of the quake near Big, Lake Alaska. It was measured at 4.0 magnitude.

Last years earthquake did significant damage. However, Alaska was strong enough to overcome the damages within a few days. The disrupted roads were repaired within days of the damage that occurred in Anchorage.

Anchorage is the biggest city in Alaska with a population of 300,000 people. When the 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit, the media was constantly showing images of broken roads.

However, within a matter of a couple of days, those cracked were turned into smooth pavements, owing to the crew that worked round the clock.

The authorities state that Alaska has more quakes than any other state; therefore, the citizens and authorities take their preparation extremely seriously. The largest earthquake occurred in Anchorage in 1964, which shook everybody to the core.

In its wake, it caused massive destructions to the state, which started a legacy of earthquake policies and preparations. Post the 1964 earthquake, Alaska has been more secure than any other earthquake-prone state in the country.
