Reddit user abernha3’s post about his cat, Andrew, shows just how much pets can provide emotional comfort to their owners.

This post shows a picture of Andrew holding hands with his owners.
As abernha3 explains, this photo was taken on his final trip to the hospital.
“Little Andrew was my junior. He was 15 and a half, and loved everyone, but just got old and sick over the last year. He purred every day of his life, and when he lost that, I knew it was time.”

On the way to the vet, it almost seemed as though Andrew understood that this would be his last ride with his owners. And even if Andrew didn’t realize that he was about to be put to sleep, he definitely picked up his owners’ emotions.
“He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I,” the user explained.

One user named grrliz wrote: “I’m sorry for your loss. My cat Buster did the same thing to me when I took him to the vet the last time. He wrapped his arms around mine while I petted him and tried to soothe him, and never let go and kept tightening them. It broke my heart.”
Another user, kykr422, wrote: “I know this feeling all too well, my little Midnight was 16 when we put her down.”
