A hunter was shot in the head by his hunting buddy after the young man, who has bad eyesight, allegedly mistook his friend for a duck.
The bizarre incident happened in Russia where 25-year-old Valery Sosedov was hunting ducks together with his unnamed friend.
According to the local reports, the pair was on a hunting trip when Sosedov started imitating ducks’ behavior by making bird sounds while hiding behind a bush.
That’s when his friend, who was reportedly hunting without eyeglasses or contact lenses despite his poor eyesight, riddled the 25-year-old with birdshots.
Following the shooting, Sosedov has been left with severe injuries to his head, face, and neck. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has reportedly launched a criminal case.
“A criminal case has been opened. We were shocked how his friend could confuse his head in a camouflage bandana with a bird,” Marina Sosedova, the 25-year-old’s mother, confirmed. “But this is what happened.”
As Marina added, her son had lost one eye “but there is the chance to save the second one, although it is not 100 per cent.”
Following the hunting mishap, the victim’s cousin, Viktoria Karpova, has launched a fundraiser in an attempt to secure enough money to pay for the young man’s medical bills.
