In Turkey, a missing person case took a weird turn after the man who had been reported missing has participated in the search for himself.
Bayhan Mutlu, 50, from Turkey, left authorities confused after he went missing from the rural neighborhood of Çayyaka near the city of İnegöl a few days ago.
It was reported that Bayhan was drinking with his friends on the day and had wandered into the woodlands while drunk and failed to reappear.
However, he didn’t return to the neighborhood, sparking concerns among his pals, who soon informed the police.
A search and rescue mission was put together immediately and according to local news reports, the team consists of professionals from the Bursa region as well as a number of locals who wanted to help out.
Initially, the search which centered on the forest was unproductive, with the search party unable to find any trace of Bayhan. Despite focusing on the area he was last seen in, the search party was unable to locate Bayhan until something quite interesting happened.
After some time searching, the members of the search party began calling out for the man and shouting his name loudly in the hopes that he’d hear them and respond.
NTV reports that as members of the search and rescue party began calling out Bayhan’s name, a man who had been helping with the search came forward.
“Who are we looking for?” he said. “I am here.”
It was Bayhan himself!
It became apparent that a visibly drunk 50-year-old had joined his own search party and was with the crew the entire time. Everyone in the search and rescue teams was shocked after knowing that Bayhan was with them the whole time.
Media outlet Vaziyet shared a photo that showed Bayhan with other rescue team members.
“The teams prepared a report about the search and left the missing person at his home,” the tweet reads.
Bayhan was reportedly unaware that his friends had reported him missing. It’s not clear how the drunk man came to discover his own search party.
It was also uncertain how his friends failed to realize that he was with them looking for himself the entire time.
Bayhan was transported back to his home and family safely, leaving police to file the strangest missing persons case report they’ve ever solved.
Something very similar happened with a woman who had visited Iceland in 2012. The woman had taken part in a major mountain search operation for a missing tourist.
But she later admitted to the police that she was the missing person that everyone was looking for. The strange search had taken place in Iceland’s southern volcanic region the Eldgja canyon.
