In Santa Rosa, California, it was dark and cold on last Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. and luckily that same day a guy named Del Hedrick was driving for Lyft, and he ran into a scary scene where he saw a toddler alone in such weather.
Hedrick was dropping off a passenger at his destination, and during that moment he saw a toddler alone on the streets at night.
During a conversation with ABC 7 news Hedrick claimed that he saw the baby just in front of the car and it was freezing outside. At that moment I just froze and was so scared to see the baby like that because it was a terrifying moment.
When he was able to come back to his senses, he quickly got out of the car and picked up the baby and safely brought her back in the car. Then Hedrick called the police and recorded a video of the whole scenario and posted it on Facebook.
He also told that the baby was soaking wet in her onesie, she was barefoot with damp hair and full diaper, and it was heartbreaking to see the baby like this.
Hedrick has two children and seeing the baby like this alone his fatherly instinct quickly got him into high gear. Hedrick thought how can anyone not think about the little one during such a situation and leave it like that?
Hedrick claimed that I am so thankful that I reached the destination on perfect timing because if I had gotten there any time soon or any later then probably the child would have wandered somewhere else and the incident would have taken a scary turn.
Hedrick knocked a few doors in the neighborhood to find the parents, but he couldn’t find anyone, and everyone denied recognizing the baby.
Then Hedrick turned up the warmer in the car to soothe the baby and calmly waited for the police to arrive.
Soon Santa Rosa’s PD showed up and posted the video to their Facebook page narrating the heroic story of how Hedrick saved the baby and called the police. The officer kept on searching the child and after a long search was able to reunite the baby with her family.
The way Del saved the baby from anything tragic that could have happened shows how a community should keep up the unity. His story has inspired a lot of people.
Gratefully, the baby reunited with her parents and there are a lot of people who criticized and rudely commented for the parents but then there are people who explained how such mishaps could happen with the best parents also.
Fortunately, the story ended on a good note, and the kid is safe with her parents.
