A motorist who was stopped by cops during the coronavirus lockdown said he just needed to get away from his wife and kids.
Alliance Roads Policing took to Twitter and shared the bizarre incident.
“Taking your BMW out for a spin on a 170 mile round trip to have a break from the wife and three kids is also not an essential journey!” Alliance Roads Policing wrote.
“The roads are much quieter but there are still people who don’t get it. Driver reported on the A30 near Launceston. 6648.”
One Twitter user commented: “Give over he just missed having a drive in his car. Probably been stuck in the house for 3 weeks! (laughing emoji)”
Another wrote: “Who does the police think they are to determine if that is essential or not? Who knows what is waiting for him when he gets back home? (laughing emoji)”

Alliance Roads Policing posted another tweet explaining how another motorist went out to buy and pick up a secondhand boat.
“Driving across the county (and then breaking down on a hill) to collect the second hand boat you just bought is not an essential journey either. Driver reported near Bodmin. 6648,” they wrote on Twitter.
One Twitter user said: “I bet that he had a sinking feeling when you moored alongside!”
Another wrote: “Crush the boat!”
A third said: “Smash the boat up for firewood, issue £1000 fines per person and send them home.”
